Avocado is the perfect keto snack food; nutrient-dense and low in carbohydrate. They come in their own green wrapper; just find a spoon.
Here’s a few of the reasons Aliens want our Avocados and no, I don’t have proof:
- Avocados contain a natural plant sterol called beta-sitosterol which helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
- Avocados contain lutein and zeaxanthin, two phytochemicals that help minimize damage to the eyes from ultraviolet light. Avocados also improve the uptake of beta carotenes which is implicated in reducing the risk of macular degeneration of the eyes.
- Half an avocado provides approximately 25% of the daily recommended intake of vitamin K which supports bone health by increasing calcium absorption. Vitamin K is essential for blood clotting as well.
- Avocado is high in fiber with approximately 6-7 grams per half fruit. Eating foods with natural fiber can help prevent constipation, maintain a healthy digestive tract, and lower the risk of colon cancer.
- Avocados have high levels of folate. Folate shows promise in protecting against colon, stomach, pancreatic, and cervical cancers. Folate is implicated in reproduction health in women possibly reducing the incidence of miscarriage and neural tube defects in babies.
- Substances called saponins, found in avocados, are associated with the relief of symptoms in knee osteoarthritis, with further research planned to determine the long-term effects of isolated extracts.
All this and they taste great too! Drizzle some lemon juice and grind some black pepper onto an Avocado: The perfect Keto snack to have in the middle of your eating window.
Yum For Now,
Karla
